Argentière is a perfect base for activities year-round –
summer, winter, autumn and spring!
Location & Outdoors
Situated at an altitude of 1250 metres, the resort of Argentière is in a stunning location in the Chamonix valley. Just 7km from Chamonix centre, Argentière is situated below Drus and Aiguille Verte and between the Mer de Glace and Glacier d’Argentière. The latter forms the border with Switzerland and Italy and reaches an altitude of 4122 metres.
Winter is magic in Argentière. With over 150km of groomed ski trails and world class off-piste skiing, the Chamonix valley is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world. One Le Savoy is just a short walk from the Lognan and Planjoran lifts which can be used to access the Grands Montets ski area where there are 10 lifts across three mountain sides to access on-piste and off-piste skiing between 1,200m – 3,275m. These long slopes range from easy beginner runs and well-prepared intermediate pistes, to challenging freeriding terrain. Childrens slopes and cross country trails are also just a short walk away. (Note from the 2018-19 access to the upper-most Grands Montets ski area is limited due to a cable-car fire in 2018. Other lifts including Herse chair and Bochard télécabine to 2,800m are open as usual. Reconstruction of Grand Montets is underway and anticipated for 2026/2027).
Further excellent skiing options are accessible via bus departing outside the apartment, including ready access to Le Tour, Brevant, Flégère, Aiguille du Midi, and Les Houches / Saint Gervais. Several other world famous skiing resorts are just a short drive away including Megeve and Courmeyer (through the Mont Blanc tunnel in Italy).
Argentière is the starting point of a number of summer hiking, climbing, trail running and mountain bike cycling routes. Nearby la Flégère is a stop on the Tour du Mont-Blanc; one of the most popular hiking routes in the world spanning 170 km and a total gross ascent of 10 km. The summer months and those either side increase accessibility of beautiful Lac Blanc and other high alpine lakes and walking trails, and numerous exceptional mountain huts provide comfortable rest-stops for overnight adventures. Each summer thousands of athletes decend on Chamonix when it hosts the world-famous mountain ultramarathon race, UTMB Mont-Blanc.
