With full opening of ski lifts from 7th and 8th of December, and around 100cm of snow forecast at altitude over the coming week, the start of the 2018/2019 ski season is set to start well!
Renowned Les Grand Montets ski area will be open from the 7th December, and will be serviced by Plan Joran lift, a 5 min walk from One Le Savoy. apartment.
The Plan Joran access is a 10 person gondola with capacity of 3200 people per hour.
While a fire destroyed a cable car between Argentiere and Lognan earlier in 2018, the Plan Joran gondola’s capacity is expected to cope with demand for access to Les Grand Montets ski area which is open as normal. This includes the Herse chair that runs right next to the upper section of the cable car (it goes 3/4 of the distance and has great ski runs)… and of course all the other ski lifts that don’t require you to be an expert!
The upper part of the damaged cable car took extreme skiiers to off-piste areas which can still be accessed with a little extra leg work, rewarded with off-piste powder!
Check out the terrain map of Les Grand Montets to explore the abundant lift and trail options in the best ski field in Chamonix – open for business!
